This time he left with 17 ships and 1200 men. He was trying to defeat a native american tribe and go on to colonize the region.
He left Spain with 6 ships, 3 of which were supply ships and the other 3 were to see if there was a landmass south of Hispaniola.
On his fourth and final voyage to the new world he set out with a fleet of four ships to explore uncharted areas west of the Caribbean.
On this day in Valladolid Spain, Columbus was pronounced dead of congestive heart failure.
