All 3 estates were voting on what kind of government they have. 3rd estate was being treated unfairly despite representing 95% of the population.
The tennis court oath

After the third estate was locked out of the palace, unable to debate with the other estates, they gathered in the tennis courts and created a constitution declaring sovereignty.
The storming of the Bastille
July 14, 1789
A mob storms the royal prison called the Bastille stealing weapons and making an important statement - down with the king.
The reign of terror
September 5 ,1792 - September, 1798
The third estate, intoxicated by their own power, go on a mass killing spree. 41,000 were killed for suspicions of royalty, mostly with the guillotine.
The rise of Napoleon and Creation of an Empire
1799 - 1804
Napoleon creates liberal laws, he fixes the french economy, and created the Napoleonic codes. He soon becomes power hungry, and becomes an emperor to conquer Europe.
Napoleon's empire collapses
June 24, 1812 - May 5, 1821
Napoleon enters russia with his massive army. Most die on their way there. Napoleon retreats, regains his army, and tries again. Unfortunately for him, he loses, and is exiled to an island in the middle of nowhere.
The congress of Vienna
1814 - 1815
Following Napoleons defeat and the crumbling of the grand empire, European absolutist powers met in Vienna, Austria to decide on how to restore peace and order to Europe.
