Narmer, or sometimes called Menes, was the first pharaoh in Egypt. He didn't change Egypt but he was still the first pharaoh of Egypt, there to kick start their journey as one of the greatest civilizations. This graphic shows an image of Narmer.
Hieroglyphics were the only way for Egyptians to write. This was their main way of communication on papyrus and paintings. Hieroglyphics as show in the image are pictures that symbolize a word.
The Step Pyramid of Dojur was the first pyramid ever built. This started the Egyptian tradition for building pyramids for pharaohs. Pharaohs used the pyramids as tombs. The image shows the Step Pyramid of Dojur.
Khufu was a great pharaoh who today is most known for building the Pyramid of Giza, one of the most famous pyramids of all time. The image is of Khufu and his pyramid still stands today.
The Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu, is the tallest and most well known pyramid in Egypt. This is Khufu's greatest achievement and it is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The image shows all of the pyramids surrounding his tomb.
Hatshepsut is known as the greatest female pharaoh. She is also one of the only female pharaohs. She built many great buildings such as the Temple of Deir el-Bahari at Luxor. The image shows a statue of Hatshepsut.
Ramses the Great was known for his many fierce battles, which were fought against such people as the Hittites, the Syrians, the Libyans, and the Nubians. The image is a statue of Ramses the Great.
King Tutankhamun was not considered very good at ruling Egypt, but he is well-known because when an archaeologist found his tomb in the 20th century, his body and his treasures were perfectly intact. This is unusual because most of the time the Pharaohs' tombs were robbed long ago. The image shows King Tutankhamun's famous death mask.
When the Assyrians conquered Egypt while it was at its lowest, this marked the end of Ancient Egypt. The Assyrians were a warrior society from what is now northern Iraq, and they conquered much of the MIddle East. The image is of the Assyrian flag.
The Rosetta Stone was the key to showing modern people how to decipher hieroglyphics. The Rosetta Stone wrote out the same decree in Ancient Greek as well as hieroglyphics and another Ancient Egyptian language. This helped us translate hieroglyphics and understand a lot about the Ancient Egyptian past and culture. The image is of the Rosetta Stone.
