1912 - 1990
The ANC(African National Congress) is a organization that funds events and hosts campaigns with the Anti-Apartheid Movement. It was briefly banned in 1950, but was then lifted in 1990 when Nelson Mandela became the president.
Native's Land Act
June 19, 1913
This was one of the many apartheid laws passed by the white government. This law states that 7% of the land is to the South Africans. The rest is farmland that is reserved only for whites.
1952 - 1953
This was campaign created by the ANC to revolt against civil disobedience. Nelson Mandela was a part of this campaign and almost turned the table around in the battle against apartheid.
This was also a trial that was set out to jail people like Nelson Mandela. This is also what got Nelson Mandela in jail and many other activists as well.
1959 - 1994
A non-profit organization founded by South Africans in Britain fight apartheid in South Africa. This organization led campaigns and partnered with the ANC and other activists like Nelson Mandela
March 21, 1960
This is was a terrifying event where 69 people were killed in the city of Sharpeville. South Africans were rioting with the police which caused police to take drastic action and shoot the rioters.
Sword of the Nation
1961 - 1990
The Sword of the Nation was founded by Nelson Mandela and it was founded after the Sharpeville Massacre. This was an organization with a similar purpose like the Anti-Apartheid Movement.
October 9, 1963 - June 12, 1964
The Rivonia Trial's purpose was to put people who were revolting against the white government. Many activists, including Nelson Mandela was put on the trial and was eventually sent to jail on Robben Island.
Black Consciousness Movement
1968 - 2009
The Black Consciousness Movement was an Anti-Apartheid activist movement which was a major organization that was formed by Steve Biko and hosts many peaceful campaigns.
The Soweto uprising was put into place by students and one of the rebellions put into place. 4,000 people were killed during the uprising, most of them students.
1984 - 1994
This organization was created by the Anti-Apartheid Movement. Its job was to assemble all religions to come and fight apartheid. It consisted of Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Sikhs.
Nelson Mandela Becomes President
May 10, 1994
This was the event that marked the end of apartheid forever. This created peace in South Africa and everything was back to normal. Nelson Mandela put down the remaining apartheid laws in South Africa.
