Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her father is Lebanese (Arabic) and her mother is Colombian. She has eight brothers and sisters.
“Pies Descalzos” or “bare feet” was her third album and it was a success in the whole Latin America and sold more than three millions of copies.
Shakira founded the charity foundation to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise their right to a quality education.
“Where are the Thieves” was a major success and it reached the top of the Billboard’s latin charts. This album helped her get noticed all around the world.

“Laundry service” brought her success in the United States. The album reached No. 3 on the charts, selling more than 200,000 copies in its first week of release.

Shakira had her first son with the famous Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique. They named their son Milan, which means "dear, loving and gracious" in Slavic.
Shakira was honored with the Hero Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards for her Fundación Pies Descalzos work.
Shakira and Pique had their second son named Sasha.
