Wages dropped because the stock market crashed in 1929. In 1932 banks collapsed. Wages were now $. 25/hr for management and $.15/hr. for workers. Farmers lost many crops in North and Central Washington State. It was declared a disaster area. Many moved to California for work.
They were called the Oakies and the Arkies; Anglo migrants from the Great Plains, Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas.
