In the year 532 CE, Justinian the first visited a chariot game between the Greens and Blues with his wife Theodora. While watching, they witnessed a fight and Justinian tried to arrest one of the fighters. This caused a riot that lasted a week and the riot ended up destroying the whole city. Theodora encourage Justinian to rebuild the city, in which he did. He also created Justinian's Code which revised outdated and confusing laws like extending women's property rights. This is important because while rebuilding, he made new buildings like a hospital and a new Church called the Hagia Sophia, which is one of the most famous buildings in the world. Justinian's Code is important because it became a basis for many legal codes in the western world.
