After the method of military recruitment was changed a man named Sulla gathered an army that had an oath to him and used this army to take Rome. Sulla then returned power to the senate in hopes that he had proven that the recruitment methods were flawed and inspired others to attempt to take over Rome.

The first triumvirate was formed with Crassus, Pompey, and Julius Ceaser.

Armies are now recruited by generals from urban and rural communities and swear an oath to the general themselves because generals promise to pay them in land.
Octavian wins the civil war between Antony and himself
In the civil war between the two triumvirate members, Octavian and Antony Octavian is victorious causing Antony to flee with Cleopatra and both of them to commit suicide.
Octavian becomes the first roman emperor and is named Augustus
After winning the civil war Octavian is named Augustus and becomes the first Roman emperor.
The roman republic collapses and an Empire rises
After all of the chaos caused by the triumvirates the roman republic falls and returns as an empire.
