The French and British both had claimed the Ohio Valley land. With this happening the tensions began to arise between the two nations. This was the beginning of the Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War.

James Murray was the first British governor of Quebec. He did not agree with the Royal Proclomation of 1763 and supported the French being allowed to have their own laws and customs in the court. The other British did not agree with this though as they believed the French should be assimilated to them.
1763 - 1766

Pontiac's Resistance was the most successful of all First Nations resistances to the European forces invading First Nations land. The French was over taken by the Brtish and with that anger towards the British the French joined First Nation forces. Together they worked to stand up to the British to try and maintain thei lands and way of life.

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued on October 7th 1763 by King George III. The purpose of it was to help people get their lands back they had lost or had to surrender during the Seven Years War. It's objective was to assimilate the French to the British rule. It also helped with the negotiation of treaties among First Nations.

With the Britian government in great debt they needed to figure out a way to accumulate money from the colonies. The Sugar Act was in place to regulate colonial trade to help ensure British manufactoring and commerce was safe from competition. The Stamp Act was also in place that required stamps on all wills, contracts, and other legal documents. This lead to the formation of the Sons of Liberty that held violent protests against these acts.
1768 - 1778

Guy Carelton was in support of passing the Quebec Act in 1774 and wanted it in place to support the Roman Catholic Church and maintain French civil law. When he was commander in cheif in New York he refused to evacuate until the Loyalist refugees were returned safely. He wanted the Loyalists to go to Quebec and Nova Scotia and the First Nations to return to Fort Miamis.

The Quebec Act was actually put into place on May 1st, 1775. It revoked the Royal Proclamation of 1763. It was put in place to try and get loyaluty from the French-speaking people which were majority. It restored French property rights and freedom of worship. This lead to the American Revolution.
1775 - 1783

The American War of Indepednace was caused by the discontent in the 13 colonies. The colonies wanted more represntation within the British Empire. From this the British began seeing the Americans as enemies because they wanted indepedence. This lead to further battles with more nations.
September 3 1783

The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution. The treaty infirnged on previous treaties that were made with the First Nations leaving them without promised land. It helped the people of the United States who obtained control of more land.
