March 3, 1513

Ponce De Leon sets sail with 200 men women, and free blacks. departing from puerto rico.

In 1527 He sets out for La Florida, he and a expedition party of 600. traveling inland by the time they reached Apalachee bay they had less then half their numbers and by the end of the journey their would be three men left.

Narvaez arrives in Florida

when he arrived they spotted land of the coast of Florida that is now Tampa Bay. they then sailed south for two days then set for land. they found an abandoned village, and a small village.

n 1537 Fray marcos sets out in search of the seven cities of gold, spoken about by Cabeza de Vaca in his journeys in 1527. In 1539 he crosses into zuni in south eastern Arizona. Never finding the seven cities of gold.

francisco vasquez de coronado was also in search of the seven cities of gold. He visites New Mexico and many othe parts of south western United sates. he would travekl through mexico Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.

In 1542 juan rodriguez cabrillo would set sail from the port of New Spain to the current San Diego bay. He would even go ferther up the coast to San Francisco, but mi9ssing the San Francisco bay. sailing in uncharted water that no other spanish man had sailed on.

Founded St. Augustine in Florida. This was the frist Spanish foothold in America, and first real European settelment . This is the oldest city in America, and was the most important city for over 300 years.

sir francis drake raided and stole from many english settelments. In 1573 he would capture 20 tons of gold and silver.

In 1598 he claimed all of New Mexico for spain. He would find places like Santa Fe and would eb the first governer of this area.

Don Juan de Oñate founded and worked to colonize sante fe along with his son. sante fe was a colony under spain. during this time this area was populated by the pueblo indians. who are native to this land.

Father Kino sets up a spanish mission at san Xavier del Bac in Tucson, Arizona


As Spanish colonists moved north from Mexico into present day Arizona claiming more land for New Spain, Jesuits founded a chain of missions along the Sonoran Mountain range.The San Xavier del Bac Mission was founded in 1700 by Father Eusebio Kino, a Jesuit explorer who worked to spread Christianity in New Spain.
