General Thomas Gage, the military governor of Massachusetts, sent 700 soldiers to capture the leaders at Concord, but they were warned by Paul Revere and others. Many patriots fought back and killed some soldiers. When they retreated to Boston, militia continually ambushed the soldiers and 73 were killed while 174 were wounded and 26 went missing. 49 Massachusetts colonists died and 39 were wounded. It was a violent resolution to the continuous conflict.
