Projecting images on the classroom walls some cite as gong back as far as 1420 (Epidemio, 2016). However, it was not until 1930 that the technology of the modern-day projector was used for educational purposes (Educatorstechnology, 2014). Its first widespread use was for training U.S. troops in WWII (Wilson, Orellana, & Meek, 2010).

Predictably, the invention of the ballpoint pen mirrors that of the pencil, with one important difference, it was permanent.

As it was in the public sector, the technology of the television introduced to the classroom is a game-changer. Suddenly, current events were integrated into lesson plans. For instance, the first moon landing and walk on the moon could be witnessed in real-time.
1970 - Present

Accounting classes at the university levels changed dramatically with the introduction of the calculator. However, it was slow to be integrated into grammar schools, as teachers worried learners would not use such methods as counting on one's fingers ( Educatorstechnology, 2014).

It took a few more years after 1980 before PCs were introduced into education. For instance, in 1986, it was estimated that only 25% of institutions used PCs, and then it was only for faculty use ( California State University Long Beach, n.d.).

With the widespread use of the internet to exchange information, most primary schools and universities all used PCs in some form (California State University Long Beach, n.d.).
2010 - Present

Before the tablet, most students had limited access for computer use in education. This portable learning tool, at its introduction, was hailed as revolutionary. However, the verdict is still out. Some instructors find them a distraction, while others find them useful.
