The term blogging originated from the term "weblog" which meant simply logging the web. The idea seems so simple now, but at the time was revolutionary. Similarly to Wikipedia, anyone could be a publisher, sharing their thoughts, ideas, or anything else on their mind. This wide access to a way of publicly sharing thoughts spawned a new idea of what the internet could accomplish in terms of entertainment, versus education. Though blogs had a slow start on the internet, they quickly rose to prominence. According to "Jesse James Garrett, there were 23 blogs on in the internet" (A Brief History of Blogging) in 1999. However according to Technorati's State of the Blogosphere report, "By the middle of 2006, there were 50 million blogs" (A Brief).
