Old English referred to as Anglo Saxon English. Vowels are not pronounced the way they are in Modern English. "Thus, name, meet, mine, book, now are pro- nounced [namә], [met], [min], [bok], and [nu], respectively" (Van, 2006). With this conquest brought changes to the structure of England including an impact on the English language. English began to decline, and spoken only by the lower class.
