Cortez dismantled Aztec Empire. He was known as a conquistador or soldier-explorer. Their military advantages of organization, armor, and weapons helped them to quickly overtake native people. The Aztecs thought Cortez was a god. They showered him with gifts and gold, but he got greedy. He was outnumbered, but the native people had no immunity to European diseases like smallpox and measles, which killed hundreds of thousands of people.
