Gussie Found a letter from 1945 war with the Japanese

June 1948

Gussie was looking through Miss Grace's things and found a letter from 1945

Gussie is going to St. Judes Church for the Deaf

June 1, 1948

Even though Gussie is an "Ear", her father wants her to go to St. Judes Church for the Deaf

A Black Family Had to Sit at the Back of the Bus

July, 1948

Gussie had to wait for a black family to move to the back of the bus

Gussie dropped Abe off at the ASD school for the Negro deaf children

August 23, 1948

Gussie's dad had to drive far out from the ASD school for the White, the Negro school wan't as nice as the ASD school for the White

Gussie had to sneak Abe to the Jubilee

August 28, 1948

Gussie had worked so hard on her performance, that she had wanted Abe to see her show

Things that actually happened in life

In 1945, we were at war with Japan

August 9, 1945 - September 2, 1945

1945 was the Soviet-Japanese War.

Negroes were not allowed in the same building as the Whites

1948 - 1964

The Whites thought the Negroes were a disgrace, and didn't want to be in the same building as the Whites

The Negroes had to go to different school

1948 - 1957

Most of the time, the schools that the Negroes had to go to were not very nice. Some of them looked like they were going to fall apart.

The Negroes had to sit at the backs of busses

1948 - 1964

All of the blacks had to sit at the back of the bus or if a white wanted their seat, had to stand

Negroes could not go to the St. Jude's Church for the Deaf

June 1948

Because of Segregation, The Negro Deaf people could not go to St. Jude's
