First Epithet

1560

When the first Puritan epithet emerged, even though the idea was initiated in the 1530s.

Yorkshire

1608

When a group of Puritans moved from Yorkshire, fearing for their safety, to Holland England.

Holland to Plymouth

1620

Then in 1620, this group of Puritans moved to Plymouth in New England.

Massachusetts Bay

1630

In the 1630s, a larger and better economical group of Puritans from East Anglia moved to the Massachusetts Bay.

Expansion

1640

Around the 1640s the same group of Puritans had expanded past the borders of the original town, the population over ten thousand people. They spread to what would become Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Maine. Also beyond the limits of New England.

Copernicus gave his work 'De Revolutionibus' to the world. Making the concept of time with the earth rotated on its axis once every day and around the sun once every year.

Zaccharias Jansen

Zaccharias and his father invented the compound microscope.
