Sargon conquested the first city state. The empire was in parts of Mesopotamia. It was ruled from a capital. It had a centrally ruled empire. It was a monarchy and autocracy. People did not have the right to vote for a leader.

It was the principles for divine right theory. It went by the "An Eye For An Eye Method." If you didn't follow the law you would be punished. It was a monarchy, and was ruled by a king. People not able to vote for leader. The rules told the people of a town what their requirements were. Hammurabi activated the code. It consists of 282 laws. The code was en-scripted on a big rock in the middle of the town for all to see.

This is like our modern day government. It's rule was from a social contract- the people gave the government its power and in return the government had to respect the people's rights. There was an elected president. There were several branches of government. Obviously, it was developed in Athens. Pericles were the greatest lasting leader.

-Communities did not feel that their governments were providing good protection.
-As the monarchs lost control of their country, a new type of government came into play called Feudalism.
-Feudalism began as Monarchs gave control of local territories to lords.
-Feudalism involved the relationship between land owners and the most powerful land owners.
-The most powerful provided protection and support for the less powerful.
-The less powerful owed military service to the more powerful.

-First rejected the authority of the Parliament of Great Britian to govern them from overseas without representation, and then got rid of all royal officials.
-The colonists had declared themselves independent after a long war where Britain was forced to give independence to the US.
-Wanted liberty, freedom, and rights.
