California and her mother, brother,and sisters, are traveling across the U.S.A. to get to there new life in Lucky Diggings (a town of tents and minors looking for gold)
California had always hated the name California, so when the family got to Lucky Diggings, she changed her name Lucy after her favorite character in her favorite book Ivanhoe!
Lucy wants to go home to her gram and grampop, so she makes pies for the miners and hopes by the next spring to get home in the tiny town in Massachusetts!
A used to be slave!
When a runaway slave named Joe fills Lucy's buckets with berries during a drought and they became friends!
Lucy's family leaves to go back to their home town in Massachusetts, but Lucy stays in Lucky Diggings! She met friends. At first she disliked Lucky Diggings but found out that she could help out the town, she became the town librarian!

People from all around the world such as Latin America, Sandwich Islands or Hawaii, Europe, Australia, China, and people all around the U.S!
Many minors came and left with a little more that what they came with!
