People from many southern states left the union and started the Confederacy, SC was the first to leave.

April 8, 1861 - April 12, 1861

Confederates fired and captured Ft Sumter, SC. This was the start of the war.

Port Royal

November 1861 - December 1861

Union troops capttured Port Royal. This was a place to have more attacks. They freed the slaves there.

Robert Smalls

May 12, 1862

He was a slave from Beaufort and he knew alot about sailing. He was able to sail without anyone stopping him and join the Union forces.

Total War

1864 - 1865

Sherman's idea was total war and he destroyed the south.

William Sherman

September 1864 - February 1865

His idea was total war on the south and leave them ruined.

Lincoln's Assasination

April 14, 1865

John Wilkes Booth shot and killed President Lincoln at Frod's Theatre. Booth blamed Lincoln for the war.
