R S McLaughlin in 1915 built Chevrolet in Canada and After a stock buy back campaign with the McLaughlin and DuPont corporations, and other Chevrolet stock holders, he returned to head of GM in 1916

in 1918 GM baught shares of chevorlet from mclaucklan and the two companies merge and mclaucklan becomes GM Canada

from 1919 to 1923 the durandt building as they called it was being constructed to be the new GM headquarters in detroit insted of flint
