800 BC - 200 BC

San Miguel de Gualdape

1526 - 1527

San Miguel de Gualdape was the first European settlement inside the United States territory. This only lasted 3 months


1600 - 1800

This was a economical system that our military use to gain more profits.

Plantation System

1607 - 1865

A system were the owner would splitting their land into smaller pieces. These smaller lands were owned by private owners.

13 English colonies

1607 - 1752

The 13 English colonies are divided into three groups:
The New England colonies
The middle colonies
The southern colonies

Slave Codes

1650 - 1665

These guidlines said that slave owners had absollute power over their slaves

Proprietary Colony

1663 - 1729

Certain people that the British crown guaranteed rights to.

Rice and Indigo Trade

1680 - 1730

Rice and indigo trade ended when a really bad hurricane washed out the rice and indigo plains and fields.

Triangle trade

1700 - 1879

The triangle trade was between Great Britain, Africa, and West Indies. They would trade sugar, tobacco, rum, rice, and cotton.

Yemassee war

1715 - 1717

This war was between British settlers of colonial South Carolina and various Native American Indian tribes

Royal Colony

1735 - 1752

A royal colony is a colony that is ruled by a king.

Stono rebellion

1739 - 1740

It was the largest slave uprising in the British mainland colonies

French and Indian War

1754 - 1763

The French and Indian war was a war between the French ,British,and the Indians.

Stamp Act

1756 - 1766

The Stamp Act put taxes on legal documents, magazines, newspapers and many other types of paper used throughout the colonies

Cherokee War

1758 - 1761

this war stared because of a big conflict that the Britain, Cherokee,and the Indians the end of the war the Cherokee made peace with South Carolina

Sugar Act


This was a time period when the British began putting taxes on sugar.

Regulator Movement

1765 - 1771

A uprising in the North and South Carolina. The Regulator movement was when the colonists went against colonial officials.But they failed.

Sons Of Liberty

1765 - 1776

An organization created to free the colonies from Britain’s rule.

Tea Act


The British government was allowing the raising the tariff on tea and letting tea traders to sell more tea to the colonies. Eventually this led to the Boston Tea Party.

Revolutionary War

1775 - 1783

The Revolutionary War was the fight for independence between the United States and their allies (France, Netherlands, Spain) and Great Britain

Declaration of Independence


The constitutional representatives passed a document
declaring that the US was now independent from British control.this happened on July 4th.

South Carolina Constitution of 1776


This was a document that was use to establish an official government.

Articles of Confederation

1777 - 1781

This was the first attempt of the United States’ formation for a constitution.Replaced on 1781

Battle of Camden


This was a one day battle that was against the British. The Brtish wanted to to win because then they would be in control of the Carolina’s

Battle of Eutaw Springs


This was one of the last mayor battles in the revolutionary war.The British won but it took a lot of hard work, and many life’s were lost.

Battle of Cowpens

1781 - 1782

The battle of Cowpens was a turning point for south carolina. , were the British surrendered.

Cotton Trade


To produce alot of cotton owner would have to either buy more slaves or make them work harder. Eventually the cotton was used as clothing material.

3/5 Compromise


This law stated that three-fifths of a state’s slave population was to be added to it’s free population.

Great Compromise


this led to the Three Fifths compromise.


1787 - 1788

The consitiution gave more power to the federal government and less to the states

Commerce Compromise


This was when the federal government was able to tax imports but not exports. This was used to increase national revenue.

Cotton Gin


This machine was invented by Eli Whitney. It made it easier to clean cotton.

Battle of Kings Mountain


This was a battle fought between the patriot and the loyalist.This battle took place in the south. this was a turning point for the Revolutionary war

Embargo Act

1807 - 1809

The purpose of this law was to force Great Britain and France out of war. It was also made it so that the American ships would not trade with the battling nations

War of 1812

1812 - 1815

This war was between the United States and Great Britain

William T. Sherman

1820 - 1891

William T. Sherman was a general for the Union Army during the Civil War. He also created the strategy of the “Total War”.

Denmark Vesey Plot


Denark Vesey and associates got executed after trying to form a slave revolt. The revolt fail after the Charleston authorities found out.

Abolitionist Movement


The main goal was to end racial discrimination and segregation

Robert Smalls

1830 - 1870

Was a representative for South Carolina in the House, and convinced President Lincoln to allow African American soldiers in the union army.

Nullification Controversy

1832 - 1833

Andrew Jackson enforced tariff . He places taxes on basically everything, making it harder for merchants to live.

Kansas-Nebraska Act

1854 - 1856

One of the many thing that it did was create the territories of Kansas and Nebraska.

Dred Scott Decision

1857 - 1858

This was about a free black man that was not a slave. The Supreme Court was deciding whether Scott should be considered a U.S citizen or not. In the end he was denied U.S citizenship.

Election of 1860

1860 - 1861

when we elected our 16th president Abraham Lincon

Many southern states became secessionist during the Civil War. They became a Secessionist becaue they left the Union

The First battle was fought here during the Civil War.Battleground in Charalston, SC

Creation of the Confederate States of America

1861 - 1865

These states seceded from the union and created their own country because they were unhappy about how they were treated.

“Total War”

1864 - 1865

The “Total War” was a strategy created by William T. Sherman. this strategy was used when Sherman and his men marched from Atlanta, GA to Savannah, GA

Lincoln’s assassination


While Lincoln and his wife were watching a play in Ford’s Theater, a man named John Booth came from behind and shot him in the back of the ear.Lincoln died from this shot.
