At first AOL sold vidoe games that cost $1 and you only got to play it untill you shut off the computer or untill you bought another one. You didnt get to stalk up on game like you can now.
In the 1990's AOL had the biggest impact on getting people to use the internet. At its all time high in 2001 over 30 million users were using AOL thats 10% of all the people accessing the web
Openess with programs is sometimes good and sometimes not, it depends who's hands its in. Like wiki, anyone can change the information on it. So if a rude person got on it and started typing some lies on there than students who use it would get faulse information.
The internet exploded in the mid 1990's. The first thing that helped was the invention of the WWW. The second was companies like AOL, at first it was really expensive, but then the rates dropped, some were even free.
