Science

Notes

BYU Preschool

1995 - 1996

I remember doing multiple activities that involved science concepts. Although we probably didn't discuss much about the science behind them, I did remember the experiments in later years.

2nd and 3rd Grade Science

1998 - 1999

At my first elementary school, we had science as a specialty class. I remember enjoying my class because the teacher let us do lots of experiments. We also had multiple class pets that we had the opportunity to take home.

5th Grade Science

2001 - 2002

We had a set time multiple days a week to learn science. My teacher would just show us LaserDisks. As a 5th grader, this was extremely boring. We did a couple of fun activities, like using eggs to explain the layers of the earth and smashing cakes together for earthquakes. But I don't remember much from those LaserDisks, and I started dreading science time.

Science Fair

2001

I had no idea for what I should do for my project, so I checked out books from the library to find one that I might enjoy. The project was not applicable to my life, and I didn't really care about it.

Girls Camp

2002

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

Science Fair

2002

Once again, I had no idea what to do for my project, so I took an idea from a book.

6th Grade Science

2002 - 2003

My teacher didn't really enjoy science, and so we only did it for a couple days the whole year. I was glad because I didn't really like science, either.

Girls Camp

2003

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

Physical Science (Mr. Tuft)

2004 - 2005

All we did in this class was watch Bill Nye videos. While the videos are fun, I had already seen most of them, and it didn't really teach me anything that I didn't already know.

Girls Camp

2004

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center

2005 - 2013

I've worked at the Space Center for years. By working there, I've been exposed to space news and concepts that I would not have otherwise been exposed to. Not only have I learned the concepts myself, but I've been able to teach children through engaging methods about space.

Biology (Mr. Glassford)

2005 - 2006

I didn't really enjoy science, but Mr. Glassford was so passionate about biology that even though the class was extremely difficult, I enjoyed it.

Girls Camp

2005

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

Science Fair

2005

My sister and I found a topic we were interested in (softball) and created an experiment that was more meaningful to us. We ended up progressing from the school to district fair, and from the district fair to the regional fair.

Chemistry (Mr. Carling)

2006 - 2007

I was excited for this class, but then it was extremely boring. This made me lose interest in the subject.

Girls Camp

2006

Physics (Mr. Clark)

2007 - 2008

I was in a normal Physics class (not AP), and so the coursework was a bit easier. That increased my confidence in science because I was able to keep up with what the teacher was saying and also help other students.

Girls Camp

2007

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

Girls Camp

2008

Although we didn't discuss a lot of science topics, I got to spend time in nature and learn a little about plants and animals.

EMS TA

2008 - May 2009

I was the TA in my Emergency Medical Services class. I enjoyed teaching the other students, and found a branch of science that I enjoyed.

Sociology

2009 - April 2009

I realized that there are other branches of the sciences (such as social sciences) which I liked because they involved other people.

Exploratorium

March 2009

During a band tourt to California, we went to the Exploritorium in San Francisco. I loved seeing how science was relavent to our lives and doing hands-on activities that involved science concepts.

Physical Science 110A and 110B

2010 - 2011

My 110A professor was extremely boring, and so I feel asleep in class on multiple occasions. I enjoyed the labs for the class, and found that I could actually help explain concepts to my classmates. My 110B professor was very excited and enthusiastic, so I enjoyed that class a lot.

Biology 101

2010 - April 2010

I felt a bit overwhelmed with all the content that was thrown at us. I actually remembered a lot of the basics about biology from my 9th grade class, but I hated going to lectures because I just got confused.

Biology Lab

2011

I was not looking forward to my Biology Lab that I had to take. But I found that I actually knew more then I thought I did, and science started making sense.

Science Methods Class

2013

Now I am enrolled in a Science Methods class to help me teach science to Elementary School children. I've grown to like science more, but I get worried that I don't know everything I need to so I can confidently teach it.
