Fur Trade & the First 'Unofficial' Settlement

Beaver hats became the fashion rage in Europe and the demand for beaver pelts increased enormously. One single pelt was valued more than a human life.

Samuel de Champlain's first voyage

1603

Samuel de Champlain sailed with him on his first voyage in March to New France.

Champlain's second voyage.

Champlain encountered the warring Iroquois near Cape Cod with disasterous results. He returned to the Bay of Fundy on the western shore of Nova Scotia.

Samuel de Champlain's death
