My Arrival on Earth


Grandma La Joie shows up at the hospital awaiting my birth with flowers she pulled up from the garden, roots and all. The story has it she was waiting there first with the flowers before my parents showed up at the hospital.

One Giant Leap for Mankind

September 12, 1962 - July 20, 1969

The space race and man walking on the moon had a huge impact on my life. It still makes me cry when I see it on television. I have read numerous books about it and am still fascinated.

Come On Baby Light My Fire

1978 - 1981

My art teacher recognizes a piece of art I made. She has the piece reproduced into certificates which she gives to other teachers so they can recognize their students for a job well done. This adds fuel to my fire.

Jacy Arrives

January 21, 1994 - Present

The birth of my son, Jacy, gives my life a whole new meaning. I adore being a mom.

Beaches, Mai Tai's and Painting

June 28, 2002 - Present

Moved from Colorado to the Big Island of Hawaii looking forward to no longer shoveling the weather and laying on the beach drinking Mai Tai's and painting pictures.

Substitute Teaching in Honoka'a

November 2011 - May 27, 2016

Two years substitute teaching at the Elementary School and then the High School, followed by three years as the long-term substitute for High School General Art, Printmaking, and Ceramics. I have my Department Head, Doug McDowell to thank for recommending me to be the long-term substitute teacher my first year and standing up to bat for me ever since.

Officially the Emergency Hire Art Teacher. I fought for it too! Also begin my two-year Mentorship and Induction Training Program with my amazing mentor Alana Haitsuka Fernandez.

Begin Teacher Certification Program


Begin the University of Hawaii at Manoa Kahalewaiho'ona'aua ITE Secondary Program on-line. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I hope I do well.
