First Continental Congress

September 5, 1774

First Continental Congress Meets after the passage of the Coercive Acts. They decided to boycott British goods.

Battles of Lexington and Concord

April 19, 1775

British troops marched to Lexington to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams, and they were going to Concord to seize weapons. "The shot head round the world was fired." Many British troops were killed on the march back to Boston.

Second Continental Congress

May 10, 1775

Sent the "Olive Branch Petition". The king ignored it, so they wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Battle of Bunker Hill

June 17, 1775

First Battle of the War. It was a moral victory for the Americans, although the British tecnically won.

A pamphlet written by Thomas Paine urging Americans to declare independence and unite their states.

Declaration of Independence

July 4, 1776

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. The colonists declared that they were independent from Great Britain.
