Metropolitan (Met) Stadium

April 21, 1956 - December 21, 1981

The Metropolitan (Met) Stadium in Bloomington MN opened on April 21, 1956 as the home of the Minnesota Twins. In 1961 The Minnesota Vikings played in it. The Vikings and Twins shared the stadium for twenty more years until it closed on December 21, 1981. Met stadium was where the famous Mall of America is located today.

The Start of The Vikings

January 28, 1960 - Present

The Minnesota Vikings were granted an NFL franchise at the league owners meeting in Miami on January 28, 1960 and the team was established in 1961. The Vikings founders were Max Winter, E. William Boyer, H.P Skoglund, Ole Haugsrud , and Bernard H. Ridder Jr.

Head Coach Bud Grant

March 10, 1967 - 1983

Bud Grant was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings for 17 seasons. He took one year off before being convinced to come back and coach for the 1985 season.

Super Bowl IV

January 11, 1970

The Minnesota Vikings played in Super Bowl IV on January 11, 1970 versus the Kansas City Chiefs at Tulane Stadium. The Vikings lost 23-7.

Super Bowl VIII

January 13, 1974

The Minnesota Vikings played in Super Bowl VIII on January 13, 1974 versus the Miami Dolphins at Rice Stadium. The Vikings lost 24-7.

Super Bowl IX

January 1, 1975

The Minnesota Vikings played in Super Bowl IX on January 1, 1975 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers at Tulane Stadium. The Vikings lost 16-6.

Super Bowl XI

January 9, 1977

The Minnesota Vikings played in Super Bowl XI on January 9, 1977 versus the Oakland Raiders at Rose Bowl Stadium. The Vikings lost 32-14.

Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome

April 3, 1982 - January 18, 2014

Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis MN was the second of three stadiums the Vikings played in. The Metrodome opened April 3, 1982. The Vikings played their last game there on December 29, 2013. Demolition began on January 18, 2014 and it was torn down in sections.

The U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis MN is the current home of the Minnesota Vikings. The stadium has a capacity of 66,655. The Vikings new and exciting stadium is where this year's Super Bowl LII is being held. Did you know that the stadium is in the exact same place where the old stadium was?
