Gujarat Vidyapith founded in Ahmedabad under Gandhiji's direction at Dahyabhai Ijatram’s bungalow.

1920

3 colleges,42 high schools, 226 primary schools functioned under the Vidyapith umbrella as a part of non- cooperation movement with total of about 30,000 students

1921

Donation of 10,00,000 rs collected by Sardar Vallabhai Patel for the construction of GV Building. At the time Gujarat Vidyapith was functioning but did not have a building of its own. It had 250 stude

1922

Visit by Paul Richa rd at Gujarat Vidyapith for inaugural ceremony.

1924

Opened first building,Pranjivan Chatralaya,

1925

Delivered the convocation address and presided over social gathering. Inaugural address read by Shri Mahadev Desai

1925

Publication of Puratatva stopped as the movement dried up due to Gandhiji because of Gandhiji being imprisoned.

1928

Presided over the convocation C.F. Andrews delivered the address. Unveiled the portrait of Acharya Gidwani. Started living in Vidyapith for close contact with students.

1928

Sarth Gujarati Jodni Kosh - Dictionary of gujarati orthography with meanings was produced. Standardisation of Gujarati spelling.

1929

Presided over the convocation Acharya Narendra Deo. Inaugurated All India Educational conference in the campus

1930

Addressed the volunteers of Dandi march.

1931

Colonial government took over Vidyapith

1932 - 34

Bombay govt recognised the degrees offered by Vidyapith. Till then they were informal

1948

Khadi Gramodyog College was added to Vidyapith

1955

Library Science training was institiutionalised

1957

UGC Declares Gujarat Vidyapith as statutory university
