Alonzo Alvarez de Piñeda discovered the Gulf of Mexico as well as Mobile Bay

Trading with and battling Indians

1539 - 1721

Hernando de Soto discovered and explored the southeast of Alabama and met with Chief Tuskaloosa.
The battle og Mabila between Tuskaloosa and de Soto, with many spanish losses.
Over 100 years after, trading between spanish and indians was established.
1717 For Toulouse was established to trade with Indians.
