Seven Year's War

1756 - 1763

A global conflict where the French and the Indians fought against Great Britain. The conflict was mainly caused by land expansions and disagreements between each other

Proclamation of 1763

1763

The proclamation insured that settlers will not cross west past the Appalachian Mountains. This ensured that there would be no conflict between other settlers and Native Americans.

Stamp Act

1765

A tax, whose purpose was to increase prices and revenue. Also taxed products that were created by the 13 colonies.

Boston Massacre

March 5, 1770

An event, where British soldiers fired on a mob killing several people. This took place on King Street. (I've actually been there before). The Boston Massacre was then used to scapegoat the British for rebellious efforts

Declaration of Independence

Approx. July 4th 1776

The Declaration of Independence used by the Continental Congress on July 4th. It was used by the 13 colonies to break political ties between them and the British

Great Compromise

1787 - 1800

An agreement where large and small states agreed for there to be two separate houses to be created. Based on population and states.

Invention of Cotton Gin

1794

A machine that separates the seeds from cotton. Allowed people to produce cotton products much more efficiently. Also meant more slaves needed.

Louisiana Purchase

1803

The Louisiana Purchase was a deal between the United States and France. United States gave France 15 million for any land 827,000 square miles west of the Mississippi River.

Louis and Clark expeditions

1805 - 1806

Louis and Clark explored the lands that the United States bought from France in the Louisiana Purchase. They discovered many different species of plants and animals during their search

War of 1812

1812 - 1815

A conflict between the United States, United Kingdom and respective allies. Fought to support Napoleon's fight against the British.

Republic of Texas

September, 1836 - 1845

Texas became its own country after leaving Mexico and in 1845 agreed to join the United States.

Gold Rush

1848

Began when a man named James Marshall discovered gold in California. The excitement for gold brought over 300,000 people from the United States and foreigners included.

American Civil War

1861 - 1865

A war that was fought between the Union and the 11 states that seceded from the Union. The 11 states consisted of southern states and they seceded because of tariffs, trade and slavery ideas.

Great Depression

1929 - 1939

A time period where the U.S economy went under recession. This was mainly caused by the stock market crash and banks that failed

Truman Doctrine

1947

A policy that would counter Soviet Union's geopolitical expansion during the Cold War.
