John Locke

The most influential thinker. Believes that children are shaped and modeled by their different experiences throughout their life. Although he did not believe about traits being inherited he did believe that children should be taught morals to follow through their life.

John Amos Comenius

1658

John is known as the Father of Modern Education, produced the first picture book, and was the one to recognize that play was the learning of childhood

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

1762

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a philosopher who stated that a child's mode of thinking is different than an adults and through hands on learning they learn more.

First public kindergartens being

In many different areas such as Germany and St. Louis many people such as Susan Blow fought to bring public school to town. After she started this less than a year later before she died in 1916 there had been over 400 public schools.

Nursery School for Children

The Nursery School for Children of Poor Women began with the Children's Hospital of New York City

Maria Montessori

1870 - 1952

Montessori, a name commonly heard through many areas is a system being used in nearly 4,000 ECE program. She respected children and saw that in order for all of them to be taught they all needed to be respected.

National Association for Education of Young Children

1926

In 1926 the National association for Education of Young Children is Founded and to this day their is over 400 affiliates and 100,000 members

Head Start

The head start program is funded by the Economic Opportunities Act.

Elementary and Seconday Education Act

The ESES was created to help low incomes families to be able to get education. It also helps the schools so they can keep all their materials nice and facilities updated.

National Academy of Early Childhood Programs

Was established by NAEYC was established for young children and to create programs to help out families

This act makes it so schools are accountable for their teaching efforts, they all have to test their progress.

Campaign launched to avoid SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) in childhood settings

Operation Military Child Care

2005

Operation Military Child Care is started for the parents and families who are active or deployed and this helps provide childhood for them
