The fall of Bastille

July 14th 1789

A parisian mob broke down the gates of the gates of ancient fortress known as Bastille, marking the beginning of the french revolution.

Women march on Versailles

October 5 1789

A angry mob of 7,000 working women armed with pitchforks and other weapons marched in the rain from Paris to Verdilles.

The royal family attempts to flee France and is apprehended to Varennes

June 20th 1791

King Louis XVI of France, his queen Marie Antoinette unsuccessfully try to escape from Paris, they escaped only as far as the far town of Varennes

France declares war on Austria and Prussia

April 20 1792

In the spring France declares war on Prussia and Austria, which responded with a coordinated invasion of the country that was eventually turned back at the Battle of Valmy.

The people invade the Tuileries palace and take the King and his family hostage

August 10th 1792

Three years after the attack of Bastille, the people of Paris take King Louis XVI and his family hostage .

Execution of Louis XVI

January 21st 1793

The execution of Louis XVI, by means of guillotine, took place at the Place de la Revolution in Paris

The Reign Terror begins

September 5th 1793

The Reign of Terrors purpose was to purge France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders.

Robespierre his followers are arrested and guillotined.

July 29th 1794

When Robespierre sent his fellow citizens and friends to the guillotine.

The end of the Revolution

October 10th 1799

The Revolution lasted from 1789 to 1799. It led the end of monarchy and many wars. It ended when Napoleon Bonaparte took power in November 1799
