First Photograph

1827

Joseph Niepce is considered a pioneer in the field of photography. He took the first photograph from a camera he had invented.

Development of Photographs

1830

Henry Fox created a new way to print photos using reverse negatives. This led to the development of modern photography.

Color Photography invented

1907

Auguste and Louis Lumiere was the first to create a color photograph. While this was groundbreaking for their time, he and his brothers refused to sell their camera to anyone in the cinematics field.

Invention of the Flash Box

1931

Harold E. Edgerton created a flash box for cameras. This led to more high-speed photography and it was the first of its kind.

Light-Sensitive-Chip Invention

1969

Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith invented the light-sensitive-chip which has become known as "the eye for all photography" in today's world. The two gentlemen have received many awards and continue to do so today.

Digital Cameras Replace Film Cameras

1975 - 1995

Steven Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak Company invented the first electric camera. In 1986 , the first digital camera was created and by the late 1990's these digital cameras had replaced film cameras for most customers.

Camera Phones Become our New Norm

2000 - 2017

Sharp (a Japanese media company) invented the first camera phone. Today, most cellular devices have a camera incorporated and many people use their phone as a replacement to a camera altogether.
