France passes an Edict that creates The Sovereign Council of Quebec

1663

This made New France a province and allowed for a civil government.

The Royal Proclamnation

1763

The British take over New France. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 sets out civil laws for Quebec.

The Quebec Act

1774

Authorized the use of French civil law and permitting the free exercise of the Roman catholic religion.

Constitution Act

1791

This split Canada into two provinces.

Mackenzie against family compact. Papineau against Chateau Clique. They demand for responsible for government.

Lord Durham's Report

1839

Lord Durham recommended reunite the provinces and have a responsible government.

Women win the right to vote in federal elections

All adult women win the right to vote in federal elections.
