US and England fight the war of 1812

Indian tribes, Sioux, Sauk & Fox, signed a treaty giving the US most of Minnesota, Iowa & Missouri.

1830

The Iowa Territory was organized.

1838

Iowa’s Supreme Court ruled against slavery.

1839

Iowa became the 29th state to be admitted to the Union.

1846

Morgan Earp was born in Marian County, IA.

1851

Lillian Russell, singer and actress, was born Helen Louise Leonard in Clinton, Iowa

1861

Jesse James and his gang robbed Obocock Bank in Corydon, Iowa, of $15,000.

1871

At Adair, Iowa, more than seven years after the Liberty holdup, the James-Younger gang made their first train robbery.

1873

William Voss and his brothers Fred and John Voss established the Voss Bros.

1877

Russell was praised for her voluptuous beauty and was frequently photographed.

1879

In Iowa the Roseman Bridge was constructed. It was later featured in the 1995 film "The Bridges of Madison County.
