1946 Neil gains his flying licence while a student age 16

1947 Studies Aeronautical Engineering at Purdue University on a US Navy Schlorship

1949 Was called up to the Navy for flight Training where he qualified to be a Naval Aviator

1951 Neil is sent to the Korean War where he had an emergency ejection after his plane was hit by anti aircraft fire

1952 Leaves the Service after flying 78 missions during the War and returns to finish his degree at Purdue University

1955 After graduation he applies to be a test pilot for NACA

NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) the high speed flight station at Edwards Air force Base. This involved testing new high speed aircrafts for the US Military.

1955 Neil graduates with a B.A in Aeronautical Engineering

1958 Neil is selected for the US Air Force Man in Space Soonest Programme

1960's Neil takes part in Project Gemini, flying spacecraft in long duration space flights

1968 Neil is chosen to be Commander for Apollo 11 and the first person who will walk on the moon

1969 Neil remains with NASA as Deputy Associate Administrator for Aeronautics until 1971

1986 Becomes the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Commission investigating the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident where all crew are killed
