George Lucas's Life


George Lucas, Jr. was born in Modesto California.

May 14, 1944

After George almost died in a car accident, he decided not to become a racecar driver. He would focus on film.

June 12, 1962

George graduated from USC after studying film.

August 6, 1966

George was diagnosed with diabetes. He could not fight in the VIetnam War so he went to Graduate School at USC.


George started a special effects company called Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) to create the special effects for Star Wars.

March 1976

George's first block-buster movie, Star Wars, was released. It won five Academy Awards.

May 25, 1977

George went to Hawaii with Steven Spielberg where they decided to make Raiders of the Lost Ark together.

May 26, 1977

George's film, Empire Strikes Back, was released.

May 21, 1980

The first Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Arc, was released.


George's movie, Return of the Jedi, was released.

May 25, 1983

Temple of Doom was released.


The Last Crusade was released.


ILM created the special effects for Steven Spielberg's movie, Jurassic Park.


George's 4th Star Wars movie and a prequel, The Phantom Menace, was released.

May 19, 1999

Attack of the Clones was released.


Revenge of the Sith was released.


George sold his movie company, Lucasfilm, to the Walt Disney Corporation for $4.05 billion.
