November 3rd 1957 was launched. First animals in space, Lakia the dog.

Mercury Redstone 2

Sent the first champanzie in space, Ham survived and lived a long life then died.

Freedom 7

may 7, 1961

Launched May 7th 1961. In space for 15 minutes, Alan Sheperd/Pillot.

Apollo 1

May 25, 1961

Sending men to the moon, eventually was 6 missions that made it to the moon.

Vostok 6

June 16,1963

Launched on June 16, 1963. First woman that is launched in space, Valentino Tereshokva. Up there for 2 days and 24 hours. Still alive right now.

Gemini Missions

April 8, 1964

They had to prepare for Apollo missions. Has astronauts orbiting missions.

Mariner 4

November 28, 1964

First probe to take pictures of Mars.

Pioneer 10

March 2, 1972

First space craft to travel through the asteroid belt and make observations and pictures of Jupiter,

Voyager 1

September 5,1977

It explored the solar system. First satellite to make it out of the planets

Hubble Space Telescope

April 24, 1990

Hubble takes pictures of deep space. farthest to explore in space was 12-15 light years.


October 15, 1997

Cassini orbits Saturn and is about to crash into Saturn next year.

The International Space station

November 20, 1998

Been up there since November 20, 1998. Still going right now.


March 4, 2002

First satellite to land on a moving commit.

Spirit and opportunity

June 10, 2003

On going mission that involves two of mars rovers. Spirit is discontinued and got stuck in soft soil and it still goes on. Searching for water in Mars. Both went far past there original goals. Going for more than 10 years.
