First satellite launched on earth. Purpose was to see if we could launch things into place.

November 3, 1957

First dog in space the goal was to put life in space. Dogs name was Laika.

1961 - 1966

First space lock, allowed man to go outside the ship

Mercury Redstone 2

January 31, 1961

Goal was Americans attempt at putting a living thing in orbit which was a chimpanzee named Ham.(He survived).

Freedom 7

May 5, 1961

Alan B Shepard was the first american man in space. Goal was to put a man in space.

Mariner 4

November 28, 1967

Went to mars and took pictures

Apollo 11

July 16, 1969

First people to walk on the moon, the main goal was to have man on the moon.

Pioneer 10

March 2, 1972

First spacecraft to go to Jupiter and take pictures. First spacecraft to get out of the rock planets to the gas giants.

Martner 10

November 3, 1973

objective was to take images of Venus and Mercury . First to use gravity assist (using planets to slingshot itself)

Voyager 2

August 20, 1977

Sent out the furthest planets Neptune and Uranus, currently heading out to interstellar space and will send data till 2025.

Voyager 1

September 5, 1977

Flew by Jupiter and Saturn and took pictures. First satellite to study the heliosphere. WIll send data to 2025

Hubble Space telescope

April 24, 1990

Goal was to launch a telescope into space.

Cassini Huygens

October 15, 1997

Be the first spacecraft to get into Saturn's orbit, 2 parts to the spacecraft. 2 different countries working together to get data

International Space Station

November 20, 1998

Laboratory in Space, about the size of a football field.

New Horizons

January 19, 2006

Main goal was to get info on Pluto, then the kuiper belt, then join voyager exploring deep space.

Kepler Telescope

March 7, 2009

Goal was to find more Earth like planets (exo planets).
