this is the time when the microscope and it was a big hit. this was created by Jensen while others claimed that they invented the first microscope.

Robert Hooke

Robert Hooke looked at a sliver of cork through a microscope lens and noticed some "pores" or "cells" in it.

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek

1670

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek described cells in a drop of pond water using a microscope. A Dutch businessman and a contemporary of Hooke. He also used microscopes and was a physicist. He made his own fine quality lens for use in monocular microscopes and was the first person to observe bacteria and protozoa. Some of his lenses could magnify objects 250X.

Theodor Schwann

1837

Theodor Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden created what is called the cell theory. The cell theory states that all living things are made up of one or more cells.

Matthais Schleiden

1838

Matthais Schleiden wrote the book "Contributions to Phytogenisis" in which he said that all parts of a plant are made of cells. He also did research on the necleus and said that it helped with cell division
