The Enterprise charted by John Pascoe Fawkner and John Lancey arrived in the Yarra River

Melbourne declared a Municipality

12th of August 1842

Melbourne was declared a Municipality when the Municipal Corporation Act was passed.

State Library and Town Hall are finished being built


The state library and the main building of the town hall had finished being constructed

Royal Australian Mint begins manufacturing


The Royal Australian Mint is finished being built and has received the first telegraph from overseas

Queen Victoria Market opens

20th of March 1878

The Queen Victoria market opens and many shopkeepers begin selling foods and other goods

First cable tram operates


The first cable tram began operating as well as the Burke and Wills statue being moved to Spring street

The St Vincent's Hospital


St Vincent's Hospital is built and begins taking patients from the public

Opening of Federal Parliament


Opening of Federal Parliament in Melbourne at the Royal Exhibition Building. Melbourneis the seat of Federal Government until 1927.
