John McClellan ran against Abe Lincoln and nearly defeated him. McClellan was shut down when General Sherman captured Atlanta. Lincoln won both popular and electoral votes.

Lee surrenders his Confederate Army to Grant

John Wilkes Booth shoots Lincoln in Ford's Theatre. Although Lincoln was shot that day he was in a coma throughout the night and died early the next morning.
