Accidental discovery of tiny chambers/rooms in a cork. Thought to be living organisms, but they were nonliving.

Robert Brown

1833

Discovered dark structure in the center of the cell. Found out it was the nucleus.

Matthias Schleiden

1838

Created first part of cell theory; "all plants are made of cells"

Theodor Schwann

1839

Contributed to the making of the cell theory; stated "all animals are made of cells."

Ruldolf Virchow

1855

German Physician also contributed to the making of the cell theory; stated "All cells arise from the division of pre-existing cells."
