Birth of Siddhartha Gautama in northern India (Nepal).

490 BC

He is introduced to human suffering at a young age even though his family is wealthy.

The first Pagoda (Shwedagon Pagoda) was built.

Approx. 480 BC

Siddhartha Gautama leaves home at age 29 to find the solution to suffering (death, old age, and sickness).

461 BC

He goes on a 6 year journey trying to find the solution by practicing yoga and extreme physical work.

After Gautama becomes the Buddha, he gives his first sermon in Sarnath.

455 BC

After Gautama becomes the Buddha, he gives his first sermon in Sarnath. This is the first time he explains the Noble 8-fold path, 4 noble truths ,and the balance between great comfort and asceticism (extreme physical work). He earns 2 disciples shortly after.

Gautama dies from bad food he was given by a blacksmith.

410 BC

Gautama dies from bad food he was given by a blacksmith. He is believed to have died a peaceful death. He told his disciples to carry on his teachings.
