This series will have three parts - September, January and then May.
Pastor Peter and Dr. Roy Matheson will be launching the new theme with a sermon series called “Life in the Vine” based on John 15. They will be working systematically through the chapter to explain Jesus’ teaching in detail. This is a 5 week series with Pastor John Burden preaching in between the five week series on October 9.
The January series will have a focus on justice issues. The series will culminate with a Justice Film Festival to be held on February 4, 2017.
“Unforced Rhythms of Grace” will examine topics such as “Marketplace Madness” – hurry and impatience in contrast to the rhythm of patience and grace, “Home Economics” – the relational milieu of our homes; the management of our lives depicted by the world’s standards in comparison to God’s design for family, “Sports Stadium” – success, prestige, hero-worship as cultural values in comparison to lives infused with humility, service and submission “Social Media Scandal” – dealing with image crises and the bombardment of device-driven realities over against the truth of our identity in Jesus.
“Walking through Advent” will invite us into the story of Advent by walking in the shoes of the various characters as presented in the gospel story: Mary’s Chaos - Luke 1:26-38, Joseph’s Confusion - Matthew 1:18-25, The Magi’s Search – Matthew 2:1-12, Herod’s Choice – Matthew 2:1-18, The Shepherd’s Celebration – Luke 2:8-20, Anna/Simeon’s Confession – Luke 2:25-38.
The second series to flesh out our theme, Fruit that will Last, will be based on issues of injustice both in our local community as well as globally. Each sermon in the series will focus on a justice issue and provide biblical teaching on that issue.
The series will culminate with a Justice Film Festival. The festival would be a series of films which promote various local and international justice issues. The goal is to invite our church community and the community at large to heighten our collective awareness of local and global issues of justice and, ultimately, to promote increased involvement.
