Charlemagne reunited most of Rome through his conquests. He also pushed the idea of a Christian Revival greatly.

Battle of Hastings

King Edward 1 dies, sparking the Battle of Hastings.

Start of Renaissance

1300

During the late Middle Ages, Europe suffered from both war and plague. The ones who survived wanted to celebrate life and the human spirit.

Bubonic Plague

1347

Because of the plague, sixty percent of the population was wiped out. Only few laborers survived and there were few opportunities to expand business, leading merchants to explore interests such as art.

Northern Renaissance begins

1453

The Renaissance ideas spread out of Italy. They mingled with northern traditions and as a result, developed its own character.
