Clayton "Peg Leg" Bates

1907 - 1998

One legged tap dancer performed on the Ed Sullivan show and has two commanded performances for the King and the Queen of England in 1936.

Maceo Anderson

1910 - 2001

First black act to perform at the Radio City Music Hall in NYC. One of the four step brothers.

Active 1951 through 2003. He was a well known tap dancer and choreographer. He is the creator of the improvisation tap. Starting dancing at three, professionally at 5. Worked for several companies. Choreographed Doxy and the well known Eddie Brown B.S chorus.

The American Tap Dance Foundation

Formerly the American Tap Dance Orchestra and founded by Brenda Bufalino is based in New York City with the purpose of demonstrating that a symphony sound could be created using a dozen dancers executing polyrhythms. It is also home to Tap City and numerous annual performances and educational programs.
