Invasion of Poland

September 1, 1939

1.5 million German troops invaded Poland along its 1,750 mile border with German-controlled territory. According to Hitler, the invasion of Poland would bring living space.

Fall of France

June 22, 1940

The Battle of France too place before France fell. On June 22, France and Germany signed an armistice and the result was a split of France where Germany got control of the west and the north plus part of the southeast.

Battle of Britian

July 10, 1940

German and British air forces fought over the United Kingdom. The Battle of Britain ended when Germany's Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force. Britain's victory saved the country from a ground invasion.

Attack North Africa

September 7, 1940

The colony of Libya bordered the British protectorate of Egypt. North Africa ended up being victorious because of their numerical supremacy.

Invasion of Soviet Union

June 22, 1941

The Germans and the Soviet Union had a pact called the German-Soviet nonaggression pact stated that the Germans and Soviets would not attack each other. However, the Germans broke that pact and began attacking the people living in the Soviet Union.

Pearl Harbor

December 7, 1941

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in intention of giving up the Pacific Islands and having the US give up Hawaii. Before the attack the US had stayed out of problems with Germany and Japan, but after the Attack on Pearl Harbor, we decided to declare war.

Battle of Midway

June 4, 1942

the Battle of Midway was fought at Midway Atoll, which is the North Pacific Ocean, Northwest of Hawaii. It shattered Japans naval strength when the US navy destroyed four of its aircraft carriers.

Battle of Stalingrad

August 23, 1942

The Battle of Stalingrad was a five month battle for the important industrial city of Stalingrad that resulted in the deaths of almost 2 million people. The Soviets bled the German army dry in Russia and after this defeat, the Germany Army was in full retreat.


June 6, 1944

The Allied forces of Britain, America, Canada, and France attacked German forces on the coast of Normandy. With a huge force of over 15,000 soldiers, the Allies attacked and gained a victory that became the turning point for ww2.

Battle of the Bulge

December 16, 1944

Was one of the most bloodiest battles ever to involve American troops and resulted in 19,000 Americans dead. The Germans advanced and created a "bulge" in the Allied lines.
