History of Resident Evil Timeline

On July 1, 2024, during a Capcom Showcase presentation, Capcom announced that the next mainline Resident Evil game was in development, later revealed to be Resident Evil Requiem.

At Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2025, Capcom officially unveiled Resident Evil Requiem, announcing a release date of February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

On August 20, 2025, Capcom released a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem showing more of Grace's backstory, including a cutscene segment featuring her and her mother Alyssa, as well as gameplay sequences.

During a Nintendo Direct presentation in September 2025, Capcom announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Resident Evil Requiem, alongside Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village.

A third trailer for Resident Evil Requiem premiered at The Game Awards 2025, revealing Leon S. Kennedy as a second playable character with more action-based gameplay, similar to Resident Evil 4 (2005).

A playable demo of Resident Evil Requiem was made available at the 2025 Gamescom and PAX West conventions in August 2025, allowing attendees to experience the game ahead of its release.

On January 15, 2026, a collaboration between Resident Evil Requiem and Fortnite was announced, which would include a Grace skin for Fortnite players.

In February 2026, Capcom released a live-action trailer for Resident Evil Requiem featuring Maika Monroe as a mother experiencing the Raccoon City outbreak in 1998.

On February 20, 2026, Capcom announced a collaboration with Yume Group to market a special Resident Evil Requiem game bundle with hanging fitness equipment.

As part of the marketing campaign, Ride used ten taxis with Resident Evil Requiem promotion livery from February 23 until March 1, 2026, located in Tokyo, Musashino, and Mitaka.

On March 1, 2026, a Grace skin was released in Fortnite, granted to players who purchased Resident Evil Requiem through the Epic Games Store.

On February 17, 2026, IGN reported that some individuals had obtained physical copies of Resident Evil Requiem from retailers early, ahead of its official February 27 release date.

Resident Evil Requiem was released on February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, to critical acclaim.

On Steam, Resident Evil Requiem set a record as the best-performing Resident Evil game at launch, reaching 344,214 concurrent players during its launch weekend — double that of the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake.

Upon release, critics praised the game's dual structure. GameSpot said Capcom had combined 'two distinct experiences that each capture the best parts of Resident Evil,' comparing Grace's sections to the horror of Resident Evil 7 and Leon's to the action-oriented Resident Evil 4 (2005).

By March 16, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem had sold six million copies, making it the best-selling game of 2026 to that point.

On March 27, 2026, Capcom released an update for Resident Evil Requiem that included Photo Mode, allowing players to capture in-game images.
